Forma cristais alongados e prism\u00e1ticos, geralmente azulados, mas tamb\u00e9m verdes, brancos, cinzentos ou incolores, com brilho v\u00edtreo a nacarado e densidade entre 3,5 e 3,7. Destaca-se pela anisotropia de dureza: 4,5\u20135 paralelo ao eixo cristalogr\u00e1fico e 6,5\u20137 perpendicular, al\u00e9m de clivagem perfeita e fratura fibrosa a irregular. \u00c9 t\u00edpica de metamorfismo regional de alta press\u00e3o, ocorrendo em gnaisses, xistos e quartzitos, associada a estaurolita, granada, silimanita e quartzo. Industrialmente, \u00e9 utilizada em refrat\u00e1rios e cer\u00e2micas de alta resist\u00eancia; cientificamente, atua como mineral \u00edndice em petrologia metam\u00f3rfica; e, em variedades azul-intensas transl\u00facidas, pode ser lapidada como gema de cole\u00e7\u00e3o. font-size: 1.1em; font-weight: bold; display: block;\">Usos:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"custom-square\" style=\"line-height: 1.8;\">\n  <li><strong>Industrial:<\/strong> Utilizada na fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o de refrat\u00e1rios, porcelanas, isoladores el\u00e9tricos e cer\u00e2micas de alta resist\u00eancia, devido \u00e0 sua estabilidade t\u00e9rmica.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Cient\u00edfico:<\/strong> Mineral \u00edndice importante para determinar condi\u00e7\u00f5es de press\u00e3o-temperatura em rochas metam\u00f3rficas.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Gemol\u00f3gico:<\/strong> Algumas variedades transl\u00facidas azul-intensas s\u00e3o lapidadas como gemas de cole\u00e7\u00e3o, embora sua clivagem e anisotropia de dureza dificultem o uso em joalheria.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Outros:<\/strong> Usada em cole\u00e7\u00f5es mineral\u00f3gicas e estudos de petrologia metam\u00f3rfica.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"with-arrow\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.8em;
