Atualmente, uma das figuras mais expressivas nessa discuss\u00e3o \u00e9 o mexicano Miguel Carter, cientista pol\u00edtico e professor da American University. Por isso, segundo ela, \u00e9 preciso permanentemente possibilitar os espa\u00e7os para a discuss\u00e3o e luta em torno de uma distribui\u00e7\u00e3o justa da terra e de um comprometimento dos governos com a transforma\u00e7\u00e3o dessa \u201cvergonha hist\u00f3rica\u201d que representa o controle dos latif\u00fandios. Ela acrescenta que o debate em torno da reforma agr\u00e1ria deve estar na pauta das universidades como um todo, dada a dimens\u00e3o pol\u00edtica que estas institui\u00e7\u00f5es possuem e seu papel de pensar e produzir conhecimento sobre os processos sociais.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;line-height: 20px\"><br \/>Sobre o LEHI, M\u00f4nica conta que o laborat\u00f3rio tem linhas de pesquisas ligadas \u00e0 interdisciplinaridade entre Economia e Hist\u00f3ria, produzindo e divulgando pesquisas com a proposta de pensar tamb\u00e9m as quest\u00f5es do desenvolvimento s\u00f3cio-econ\u00f4mico brasileiro em sua perspectiva hist\u00f3rica. Ela fala da import\u00e2ncia de pensar historicamente a quest\u00e3o do crescimento, do desenvolvimento e do nosso modelo econ\u00f4mico, uma importante preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o pol\u00edtica e intelectual do grupo.
